World number one golfer Scottie Scheffler found himself in a misunderstanding with police on his way to the PGA Championship held at Valhalla Golf Club in Kentucky. Scheffler was arrested and charged with reckless driving and assaulting an officer.
According to police, the incident stemmed from Scheffler failing to follow commands at the scene of a fatal crash. Despite the arrest, Scheffler was released from jail early enough to compete in the tournament.
Adding another layer to the misunderstanding, Scheffler played exceptionally well after his release. He shot a 5 under par, propelling him to third place on the leaderboard.
Louisville Police claim Scheffler disregarded orders during a traffic stop due to the crash, resulting in an officer injury. However, Scheffler maintains it was a simple misunderstanding.
Facing multiple charges, Scheffler was released and returned to the course, where fans cheered him on. His attorney confirmed a not guilty plea and that Scheffler would continue playing in the tournament.
