They might be expecting rain to be widespread when we’re predicting it, when in fact it can be in very isolated areas. That’s what we’re seeing happen today, so in the Southeast Direction before it moves offshore and those storms have a little bit of lightning.
Spotty Showers: Don’t Let Isolated Storms Catch You Off Guard
Northern portion of Glen County, but as these storms are moving through Southeast Georgia, we’re getting very isolated storms within the area of northeast Florida. So let’s take a closer look.
So as you can see specifically in the area Duvall County, Nassau, those areas they’re also getting their share of isolated storms. We have one right now that just moved through Jacksonville over the St. John’s River and is currently approaching the beaches.
Beach Warning! Strong Winds and Choppy Waters Accompany Isolated Storms
Um, in addition to that, speaking of the beaches, boaters also keep in mind that you have a marine warning that is in effect for the next couple of hours due to some of the strong winds and choppy waters that you’ll be dealing with as these storms push through.
So as we’re dealing with this, it’s going to continue for at least the next two hours focused on those isolated storms.
Downpours or No Rain? Isolated Storms Make for a Localized Forecast
So that means you could be in Baker County not seeing a single drop of rain, but in Duvall County you could see a downpour from a storm having an impact for no more than maybe 15 minutes and then you go about your day. That’s why it’s a tricky day for people.
Heavy Rain Possible Tonight: Isolated Storms on the Radar for Later
But taking a look as we look ahead for our radar forecast, 7:00 p.m. 8:00 p.m., see again we have those isolated storms that will have heavy downpours in some of them.
For instance, around the 8:00 hour there’s a possibility of having one near Alachua County just east of Gainesville and then at that Florida Georgia border as well between Fernandina Beach and also the area of Kingsland, Georgia, and then we still have another one possibly moving off the coast around the 8:00 hour in the St. Augustine area, St. John’s County.
Scattered Clouds and Early Morning Thunder: Overnight Impact of Isolated Storms
But in addition to that along with these storms, we will have a little bit of cloud coverage, but even that’ll be scattered. These isolated storms will continue to move through in the evening into the early morning hours as you can see, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 AM.
In the morning there could yet again be more rumbles of thunder that you hear as you’re in bed getting ready for the work week close to the Florida Georgia border with a little bit of cloud coverage attached to it as well.
Sunshine Returns Soon: Rain Chance Decreases After Today’s Isolated Storms
So it’s definitely one of those types of weather days where depending on where you are will dictate how the weather is with those isolated storms.
89 degrees right now, uh, it feels even hotter than that with the index feeling closer to the area of low 90s in Jacksonville, same for uh Georgia, Southeast Georgia as well, but 89 partly cloudy skies, mostly cloudy skies in some areas with the wind coming from uh the West at 17 miles per hour.
And then as we go further in and take a look at Clay County, the sky cam there, Doctor Lake Marina, 90 degrees. They’re getting rain there.
The wind is at 10 miles per hour and you can see the difference as far as where that cold front is moving. The low 70s in Brunswick and Waycross, but we’re still in the upper 80s in Jacksonville, Lake City, Gainesville, St. Augustine, and Palatka.
You can see where that cold front is moving through and that’s where you can also track the rain. Gust of winds will also occur near the Florida Georgia border in addition to northeast Florida. The temperatures will dip into the upper 60s overnight and rain is still possible.
Today is the biggest probability for rain at 40%. Tuesday 20%, Wednesday 10%. Our rain accumulation is not much, but tonight the rain, the isolated storms are still possible, a low of 67 degrees by the time we start out tomorrow. Here’s a look at your 7-day forecast. We’ll stay in the 80s then make our way into the low 90s.
